Conclusions of a Rainy Day

After sitting in the house for about 2 days because its been too cold and dreary outside to do anything, Ive come to a few conclusions.

1.No matter how dark and gloomy and unwelcoming it may be outside, I love the rain. There is nothing more soothing than the sounds of rain at night as I go to sleep. The sound of it hitting the trees, the roof, the windows, pouring out of the gutters.. Sometimes even the sound of thunder. Its like the world is singing me a lullaby. Nothing helps me fall asleep more than a good storm. Maybe its just the sound, maybe its knowing that the Earth is being renewed as I rest. Either way, to wake up and see everything sparkly and shimmery in the sun light is beautiful.

2.Fall is STILL and always will be my favorite time of the year. Even with the rain bringing much needed water, everything is looking a little drab. Trees and bushes are no longer full and glorious, the grass and straggling flowers are wilting and turning brown, and there are increasing amounts of leaves on the ground. Even on the sunniest of days, it is very evident that winter is coming and all kinds of life are preparing. Whether it be the decreasing amount of birds, flocks of geese heading south, or squirrels scurry around to gather food. But my favorite part is that cool crisp breeze that is unmistakable and only comes this time of year. I love the smells it brings and how refreshing it is when you just stand there and take a deep breathe, letting it flow around you. I just close my eyes and listen to the trees. Being an artist, I tend to get sick of all this green ha ha so of course in the fall, I love the leaves changing colors. The more leaves on the ground, the happier I get. There are so many colors and every tree has a different shade, its so beautiful. Living in Virginia, there is one thing you CAN NOT miss out on and that is the annual Sky Line Drive trip to see the fall foliage in all its glory.

3.You can not let the weather effect your mood. Yes, there is something about a sunny day that just instantly makes you feel happy and hopeful. It is scientifically proven that we need sun light to be healthy! But…overcast days are inevitable and when they do roll around, don’t let them get you down. As much as I love rain, I don’t particularly like staring out at the grey-ness and wondering what I can do that isn’t outside. Rainy weather can put a damper on your plans..literally. However, what is good for the Earth is good for us so find ways to be productive inside. Wear bright clothes and wear a bright smile to counteract the gloomy atmosphere.

With it being the last day of September today and October starting tomorrow, the days of summer are officially a thing of the past until next year. I look forward to many more rainy days, chilly mornings and evenings, crisp breezes and swirling leaves of all colors, and layering up to keep warm. Stores and farms alike prepare for pumpkin picking and Halloween decor which makes it even more exciting.
